Dear Sue,
I'm so glad you finally made it to Buffalo for a sleepover. I'm dying to show you what's great here. It was a short visit, but I'm glad I got to show you the gorgeous schools my girls go to and my historic neighborhood and house, and eat delicious food and see some public art. I know the giant black owl perched on the roof of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery with its glowing eyes is kinda scary but I think mostly cool. But I love owls. So I considered it a welcome to Buffalo for me, personally. Really though, it was part of an art show that went on for months last fall all over Erie and Niagara counties: Beyond/In Western New York 2010: Alternating Currents. Some of the artists even came from Southern Ontario. I wonder if the border guard thought that was impossibly hard to comprehend too. (Did you know Buffalo is in Erie County? Obviously Niagara Falls is in Niagara County.)
Sorry the restaurant made us wait so long after our reservation's start time but free dessert and free truffle salted fries took another measure of the stressed-out former New Yorker out of me. A New York City restaurant would never have seated a late reservation like the one that held us up (before us). On the other hand, being accommodating is something I'll remember it is. And it was the best steak sandwich I've ever eaten in my life. Seriously.
And thank you for all the Roots stuff - including maple shortbread cookies - those were insanely good. You don't see a lot of Roots here - not like Lulu Lemon anyhow.
Love, Erin
